Your Doctor, Dr. John R. Scuba, M.D., D.D.S
Dr Scuba is a summa cum laude graduate of both the University of Texas Medical School and The Ohio State University Dental schools. He was selected into both the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Societies for academic excellence. He was Chief Resident and completed his training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where he also completed his General Surgery Internship.
Dr Scuba has been board certified in Oral & Maxillofacial surgery since 1991. His practice includes the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including facial trauma, facial cosmetics and laser skin procedures, dental and facial implants, operations on the teeth and jaws including teeth and wisdom teeth, as well as many other procedures. He holds active licenses in both medicine and dentistry in the state of Georgia, and maintains the highest standards of continuing medical education.
Dr Scuba is a retired Army officer whose 29 year military career was highlighted by numerous awards for achievement, including 5 years teaching at the postgraduate (residency) level in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and 8 years teaching oral surgery and pathology to new dental graduates. Dr Scuba was assigned to Fort Benning in 1998, and has made his home in Columbus, retiring from the Army as a Colonel in 2005.
Dr Scuba is board certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons, and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is an Associate Member of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Medical Association, the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, and the Georgia Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Our Staff
Our staff consists of 4 surgical assistants fully trained in intravenous and inhalation techniques for conscious sedation and general anesthesia. All are completely and familiar with assisting in all surgical procedures performed, and are proficient in basic cardiac life support, CPR, and other techniques for assisting the doctor in management of medical emergencies.
Our Office
Our surgical center is fully equipped for various procedures ranging from jaw and facial reconstruction, repair of facial trauma, placement of dental implants, removal of teeth and wisdom teeth, and treatment of head and neck pathology. We perform cosmetic surgery of the face, nose, ears, lips, eyelids, neck, and injection of all types of fillers (Restylane®, Juvederm®, etc) and Botox®. Our state of the art medical equipment includes the Palomar laser system with intense pulsed light, fraxel, and ablative lasers. With this system we provide skin rejuvenation and skin surface procedures to repair all types of photodamage, age spots, sun spots, skin wrinkling, surface irregularities, and abnormal vessels. We also perform removal of hair on the face, armpits, legs, and all other areas of unwanted hair. For the comfort and safety of even the most fearful patients, we offer fully monitored sedation and general anesthesia during our procedures and our safety record is impeccable.
Our Administrative Staff
The administrative staff includes the Facility Manager who has twenty six years experience in the operation and management of outpatient surgical clinics. There are two staff coordinators who serve as administrative assistants and perform billing, coding, and claims processing. They are experts with extensive experience in establishing patient benefits, claims submissions, and rectifying disputes for patients with all insurance carriers, working with these carriers on a daily basis. Our administrative staff also regularly provides compassionate and thoughtful assistance for pre-approval for procedures, and for financing care through low interest loans, applications for Care Credit, and other low interest financing programs for health care for those who qualify. All administrative staff members are also trained in CPR.
